Maspex together with partners inspires and educates consumers

Maspex within EIT Food co-creates the Annual Food Agenda project. This European initiative focuses on engaging consumers and inspiring the youngest to learn about food-related topics. Working with partners from all over Europe, the company conducts educational and communication projects throughout the year – the first initiative is workshops for children organized with the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn.

The Annual Food Agenda is a communication project supported by EIT Food, the European Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), operating thanks to the independent European Union organization - the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT). The EIT Food consortium, to which Maspex belongs, was created to improve the food ecosystem and support innovative, economically sustainable initiatives related to improving health, access to high quality food and the environment.

7 key partners participate in the Annual Food Agenda project. Poland, alongside Maspex, is represented by Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Spain – CSIC, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the Autonomous University of Madrid, Great Britain – University of Cambridge and PepsiCo.

Activities combine the promotion of a responsible approach to diet and a healthy lifestyle, care for the environment with increasing interest in the food industry and inspiring the youngest consumers to learn better about food-related areas.

The plan of events is to involve citizens in public debate and interaction between various stakeholders in the food industry. The dialogue of the academic environment, industry, business with consumers is based on the organization of valuable initiatives. During the year, the partners will organize 32 thematic events in Poland, Spain and Great Britain. Each one is to inspire different audiences, especially the youngest consumers and representatives of the food industry.

Planned activities are focused on four areas – planned by seasons, subsequent quarters during the year. Everyone will develop individual topics related to the future of food.

The first, lasting now, was devoted to trust in food. As part of this, Maspex in cooperation with the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn organizes a series of educational workshops for primary school students. These meetings are aimed at supporting conscious consumer attitudes and strengthening trust in food. During the workshops at the headquarters of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn and at schools, children learn how to check the chemical composition and benefits of products through modern equipment, as well as what food testing methods are and how to read labels of food products. Children gain both common and advanced knowledge in practice.

Topics for the next quarters are:

·         Food Trends & Future Consumers – projects will be devoted to public debate and dialogue between academia, industry, producers and consumers;

·         Healthier Nutrition – they will be activities organized to broaden knowledge about balanced nutrition and habits of a healthy lifestyle;

·         Food Sustainability – within this area, the initiatives are designed to strengthen consumers' understanding of the impact of production and consumption on the ecological footprint and to promote bio-economic solutions.
